Orijen pet foods was selected as the 2009-2010 pet food of the year by the Glycemic Institute in Washington D.C. This is a global award. After testing hundreds of pet foods in a non-bias way, Orijen is considered to be the healthiest overall and most biological appropriate petfood in the entire world. My dog loves the taste. It is grain free and free of all artifical preservatives such as ethoxyquin, BHT, BHA etc. It is very high in protein and many other nutrients, which is great for all breeds of dogs. What I especially like about the Six Fresh Fish with Sea Vegetables flavor is that it uses fish oil instead of chicken fat, which is almost impossible to find. This food is also hypoalergenic, so if your dog has food allergies, especially to chicken or grains, this is the food to get. This food is great for dogs whether or not they have food allergies. I have two different flavors of the Orijen dog food and give my dog both flavors each day so he has some variety in his diet. I highly recommend this food. Well worth the little bit of extra price.

Siberian Huskies are naturally picky eaters but this food really excited her. Anya attacked it like my Goldie/Shepherd mix did. My Goldie/Shepherd mix has problems with dry skin and a diet rich in fish oil was suggested. It worked for her but gave her ‘fish breath’, my daughter said. I recommend this food for any dog that gives you that “what the heck is this again?” look with ordinary foods. I recommend it for Huskies and for dogs with itchy skin. Its a real treat “Like stealing the cats food.”

Before I get into my commentary about the Orijen 6 Fish, I have to say that I have fed my dogs and cats raw for many years. We bought a 9 week old Pekingese recently from a breeder. She provided us with a 2-3 week supply of the food. I went ahead and fed it because I didn’t want to change it too fast. His stools were big, soft and stinky. I found a shop that was selling it here and went out there. By coincidence they were going to have an Orijen rep there. So I talked with the rep who said that a puppy shouldn’t be eating the 6 Fish and he recommended a puppy mix. I bought it and took it home. Basically I had the same results. I switched him to raw. I think he has a bit of a nervous stomach as he has a few problems but nothing like with the Orijen.
I have read a lot of 5 Star reviews from people who seem to be conscientious and observant. I have also read some 1 and 2 Star Reviews from people who also seem that way. The only thing I have to say is that it is not for everybody.

After 1 1/2 months on this food all three of my dogs had dangerous liver readings. After 3 weeks all three went back to normal. this is a dangerous food and can kill your dog be careful. I would not recommend feeding it unless you are willing to pay very high vet bills and lose your dog. the company never responded to my emails or phone calls.
